Actually, I was thinking the same thing. I think his term has already outlasted that of the pope before last anyway

Apparently a lot of people thought he should've been either black or a woman; I don't know, they think discriminating is going on or something.

I think it will be a long time before the possibility of a female Pope ever arises, given the controversy over the role of women in the Church and the fact that the Church is a very conservative institution. I don't see how people are able to say the the Pope should be black or female, given that the Pope is elected to lead the church, not to be some sort of figurehead for equality. Of course, blacks and women should be able to be elected to papacy, at least in my opinion. Skin colour and gender do not determine a person's ability to lead. I would not be opposed to seeing a black or female Pope, but I would care about their ability to lead their people first with their skin colour and gender coming second to that. I guess what I am getting at is that what is needed is not a black/female this or that, be it Pope or President or any other position of power and leadership, but a system in which people can be considered for such positions based on the qualities that matter for that position. hmm and i heard last nite when he was younger he was in the hitler's youth I heard that as well, and was a bit concerned, particularly given controversy over the actions of the Church during the holocaust, but it was law at the time to be a member of Hitler Youth, and it seems he was not too keen on it. "National Catholic Reporter correspondent and biographer John Allen writes that Ratzinger was an unenthusiastic member who refused to attend meetings." wikipedia linkHe was also drafted into service in the German army, but it seems he deserted before the end of the war.

I don't think that they should have someone who served in the army, willingly or not be a Pope. But oh well, if God can forgive that, I can try. Women can't be Popes, one of the requirements is that you be a male. And I don't like him cuz he's creepy looking. And also, he's so old cuz they don't want another long regining pope like JP.

Ha I was just kidding about the creepy thing, although you must admit, he doesn't have that appealing look that John Paul had that made people want to talk to him. And I just have a problem with people who have served in the army and killed people being the religious leader of thousands.

during his service he was never deployed at the front lines, so it not likely he ever killed anybody.

Why'd they pick one that was so old? That's exactly what I thought. That's all I thought. It is kind of weird that there's a new pope only because John Paul has been the pope for, like, ever. So...

He's a transition pope. John Paul was Pope for 26 years, but they never expected him to have that long of a Papcy, this one is so old so that he doesn't get to be Pope for 26 years.
