THINK AGAIN!
Sheri & The Bad Grade
Part One
It is Wednesday, March 25, 9 PM. Sheri is feeling confident about a test on the map of Africa. She has studied hard and feels extremely prepared
Sheri and classmates enter room
Mrs. Burke: Good Morning! If you will all please stand in the front of the room. I have decided to make new seating arrangements--you seem to have a talking problem in my class.
points to seat in deep darkness of the back of the class "Sheri." points
Sheri: sits down in seat and takes out pen & paper for class
Everyone is seated, Mrs. Burke turns on overhead projector for test on Africa. Sheri realizes she cannot see it from her little dark pit in the back. She reaches in her purse for her glasses. When she cannot find them, she panics.
Sheri: turns to Dylan Dylan, I can't find my glasses! What am I gonna do?!
Mrs. Burke: Sheri! Do you want a zero?!
Sheri: No ma'am.
Sheri squints eyes in effort to see the map. She is able to make out a few places. Before she knows it, time is up.
Mrs. Burke: Okay! Turn in your papers in the basket.
Sheri: I'm not finished.
Mrs. Burke: Well, if you're not done by now then apparently you don't know it.
Sheri: But--
Mrs. Burke: evil look
Sheri: sadly turns in paper
Part Two
It is now time for gym. Sheri usually loves gym, but after that test, she is anything but in the mood for gym. So, she lies, telling Coach B that she does not feel well. Thankfully, since this is the first time, Coach B allows her to sit out. To Sheri's much disliking, today they are playing basketball, Sheri's favorite sport. She watches as her friends all engage in the game.
Coach B: Are you okay, Sheri?
Sheri: Yeah, its just..umm..my stomach.
Coach B: Do you want to go to the nurse's office.
Sheri: No, I'll be alright.
bell rings for gym to end
Students all run to the hallways to prepare for their next class
Part Three
It is the end of the school day and Sheri has been feeling depressed all day. She can't decide whether or not to tell her mom what has been bothering her. Later that night she decides to.
Sheri: Hey Mom. If I tell you something do you PROMISE you won't be mad?
Mom: unsure look Yesss....
Sheri: tells mom all about what happened. Sheri is very surprised to see that her mom is not mad at all
She goes to bed, ready to face the 1/2 a day left before her spring break.
Part Four
Monday, April 4. Sheri is sitting in class waiting for her Map test to be given to her. She gets a surprising look from one of her classmates as to ask "Is this really YOUR test?"
Sheri: Slowly turns over paper and reads "36%-Retake by 4/6"
Jennifer: turns around seeming very happy What did you get?
Sheri: Oh, Nothing.
Jennifer: tries to grab paper
Sheri: puts test in folder Its my test, its none of your business.
Jennifer: Fine then. I bet you failed. turns around
Sheri: mutters something like that....
Moral of this story? I guess there really isn't one. But, I should've had the courage to tell Mrs. Burke the real problem. What makes this even worse is that I knew the material so well, and it sickens me to think that I failed because I left my glasses at home. So, maybe there is a moral--a small one.
"Never let fear get in the way of doing your best."
I have decided that I will never let anything like that happen again. Now there's only one bad thing about this left to deal with--telling my Dad.
THE END.
