Brian Hester invited his mother over for dinner one evening. During the course of the meal, Brian's mother couldn't help but notice how beautiful Brian's roommate, Stephanie, was. Mrs. Hester had long been suspicious of a more-than-friends relationship between Brian and Stephanie, and meeting Stephanie had now made her more curious.
Throughout the evening, while watching the two interract, Mrs. Hester really started to wonder if what was going on between Brian and his attractive roommate was more than met the eye. Reading his mom's thoughts, Brian volunteered an answer. "I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you, Stephanie and I are just roommates."
About a week after the visit, Stephanie came to Brian.
"Ever since your mother came to dinner, I've been unable to find the antique silver gravy ladle. You don't suppose she took it, do you?" "Well, I doubt it. But I'll send her an email just to make sure."
Brian sat down and wrote:
Dear Mother, I'm not saying that you did take the antique silver gravy ladle, and I'm not saying you didn't. But the fact remains that it's been missing ever since you came for dinner. -Brian
Several days later, Brian recieved an email back from his mother saying:
Dear Son, I'm not saying that you are sleeping with Stephanie, and I'm not saying you aren't. But the fact remains that if she was sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the ladle by now. -Mother
