In this thread, those of you who are religious can ask those of us who are not what we think about life, the universe and everything. Want to know how we view Jesus, God, religion in general and their places in the world? Want to know what some of our philosophies, or what we know about other secular worldviews? Then ask away, a little more knowlege about the point of view of others is never a bad thing
Just keep it civil and no prosthelyzing. This goes both ways.

The same point as any other living organism: To live, reproduce, and die.
Now how am I going to stretch that to 500 words for my Bible study essay >.<

what's your point in living? Personally, my point in living, besides the "live, reproduce and die" part (take away the reproduce bit though, the world does not want that), is to make the best of what time I have here. To gain the knowledge that I can and to make use of it ina way that I will hopefully leave some small impact on the world, to enjoy myself without harming others, to be there for those I care about, and to help raise my sister is such a way that the world is a little bit easier for her. It appears more and more as if I am stradling the secular humanism fence. The same point as any other living organism: To live, reproduce, and die. well thats pointless Different strokes for different folks. Nobody is asking you to adopt her outlook, and everyone has been asked to keep this thread civil. Feel free to leave the thread if you can't do that.

What's your point for living? besides worshiping and loving God, nothing. Well, there is one thing, but I would get laughed straight off this site and straight out of church (seeing as how tehre is someone on here that knows me in person) if I said it. But yeah, thats my only point in living.

I should add more to my answer. That was the biological reasoning. I don't believe everyone needs to reproduce, as there are some people who shouldn't send on genes, and of course, people who can't reprodce. Biologically though, that would be it.
My point for living? To be around not as a burden to anyone. To live my life enjoying myself- of die trying. To make life better for those around me (yeah, I'm a peer counsellor, don't laugh). To fill myself with knowledge, and not to believe everything spoonfed to me. To keep myself healthy to be around as long as possible. Oh I could go on....
New question for you seculars, since this one created some turmoil. Were you ever a Christian? How about any other religion? What keeps you in non-theism?

Copied and pasted from a post a while back on YOT. ^_^
I don't think I could say that I was ever really a Christian, it was more that my parents told me that god would solve my problems, therefore I thought that was awesome and decided to listen to them and pray. My belief was based off of what my parents told me to convince me that god was all-powerful rather than me actually believing beyond "oh he can help me he rocks". Yeah, I gave up on that idea a while ago. I'm stuck on non-theism now, because aside from the fact that the above never really helped anything, I severely struggle with the see-to-believe thing (bad, I know), and I have some issues with believe in any omniscient omnipotent being, who can be soo great and who loves everyone, yet would send any of "his people" to a place like "hell", or force people to live in some of the conditions they are living in today...
That wasn't quite as clear as I wanted it to be, but eh. Maybe I'll elaborate later if needed.

I was very much a Christian at one point. I had a huge falling out at one point a while ago, and I'd consider myself agnostic for now. I've researched in most of the main world religions, including but not limited to Buddhism, Wicca, Taoism, and even Satanism. LeVay's, to be precise. Sticking with non-theism though, because I haven't the time to keep myself dedicated to something I'm lukewarm about.

How old were you when you seriously started to doubt Christianity (if that was what you grew up in)?
Note to Shodan: Thanks for starting this thread!

I was around 11-12 when I started realizing that praying was doing nothing for me. And I "officially declared" myself athiest when I was 15. But like I said a few posts up, I can't say I was really ever a Christian...
