Terrible Idea or Worth a Try?

Short question: Should I suggest hanging out with someone through Facebook?
background: dunno him well... at ALL. Dun see him except by chance crossings on campus. Met him by hooking up at a frat party. BUT! he remembered me a few days later when we crossed paths and was very friendly and greeted me first and we had a little chat. I then friended him on facebook after thanksgiving break.
So christmas break is 2 weeks away (less than that even). Part of me has a largely unfounded attraction to this guy, and another part of me wants to practice being outgoing and socially aggressive anyway, so what better way to start than by giong after men I want?
However, if I leave it to a chance meeting, it's unlikely to ever happen. So, the question:
Should I send him a message on facebook suggesting we get together before break?

yea, it sounds a little desperate, but it's not like I'm going to go making proclamations of love or be crushed if I'm refused. it's just part of my attempts to start making and taking opportunities for myself- not idly waiting for them to float by
