i currently have a girlfriend but the thing is we never talk any more and we never see each other that much anymore. i always try to start conversations with her and makes plans to go out but she doesnt seem to ever want to meet me half way. the last time i ever saw her was at a graduation party last may. so i am starting to feel like i am wasting my time with her and i should break it off. but if that wasnt bad enough there is another problem. she is a little bit suicidal and i am afraid that if i do break up with her that might be enough to push her over the edge and it would be all my fault and i dont think i could live with that kind of guilt. i dont really know what i should do

You haven't seen her since May? Like, at all?
She doesn't seem interested and a relationship requires participation from both partners. I think you should break it off. Just be honest with her. As far as the suicide thing, based mostly off of gut instinct, I don't think she will. Girls are more likely to b*tch and whine and threaten suicide, and even make some attempts, but they're not terribly likely to actually do it. They don't make definitive action the way boys do.

And even then, girls are more likely to attempt suicide by way of overdose or something else sketchy like that, while boys are more likely to actually put pistols to their heads. That really has nothing to do with this, I was recently at a suicide prevention workshop and I thought I'd throw that in. Ditto Peg, though.

haha, I was about to type that out before but decided it wasn't necessary. Boys are more likely to pull out the pistol without warning too.

You can still be friends with her, and break up with her in a humane way.

Tell her you still respect her and you are breaking up with her because it's in the best interests for both of you. If you can, do it in person and not on the phone or online. Afterwards you can still keep in contact with her, unless she wants space, of course.

Are you sure she'd even be that upset? It doesn't sound like she cares much about the relationship anyway, from what you said.
Either way, not breaking up with her when you want to isn't being nice. It's lying to her, it's lying to yourself, and it just makes things worse when it finally DOES end. I'm like the fiddlesticksing posterchild for that. You have to do what's right for yourself.

Truth is, she could be sitting at home thinking "Gee, I really want to break up with him, I just don't want to hurt his feelings."
