Having been thouroughly intrigued by Alexander the Great for years, it is strange that I have not seen the epic Alexander. Why? Colin Farrell. Ick. I'm considering bearing through him, especially since I'm expecting some man-lovin' between him and Jerod Leto.
Anyone seen it? Everyday in my Comparative Civilizations class there is a debate over Troy vs Alexander, and I join in them, but I figure it would be better if I actually watch the movie. >.>

I've seen neither. No sex for the sheltered 14 year old.
That reminds me. Was it you who had the avvy of the 2 guys kissing at S16?

There's not all that much sex in Troy. You get Paris (Orlando Bloom) and Helen semi naked, but they're just talking. Achilles (Brad Pitt) is always surrounded by women, and he seduces a priestess, even though omv Achilles was well known to perfer men. Stupid hollywood.
Almost a year ago I posted a bit of a shower scene from Queer as Folk, if that's what you're thinking.

achilles and patroclus were supposed to be lovers, not cousins, but they took the bisexual references out of troy because OMG TEH GHEY R ICKYBAED
i have not seen alexander, but the man himself was a legend. also interestingly, he idolised achilles and slept with a copy of the iliad under his pillow. from what i have heard the movie is less than impressive.

I know, it bothered me too. >.> Shodan, I want you in my Comparative Civilizations class, because we spend whole 2 and 1/2 hour classes talking about this sort of thing.
Interesting, I didn't know that. But yes, he was a legend. It is my humble opinion that Alexander was a more impressive conqueror and military leader than Napoleon (another class wide debate) firstly because he did not try to take Russia in the winter and secondly for how compassionate he was with his soldiers. Yep, just thought I'd throw that in.

It is my humble opinion that Alexander was a more impressive conqueror and military leader than Napoleon easily. there are few who can match alexander, given that he carved out a massive empire over a short period of time using men with long pointy sticks. firstly because he did not try to take Russia in the winter ah, the good old russian winter, defeater of armies! and secondly for how compassionate he was with his soldiers. Yep, just thought I'd throw that in. yeah, if by compassionate you mean was prone to drunken outbursts and throwing javelins at people who annoyed him. other than that he was not too bad. that is also why i like hannibal barca, he faught in the front lines much like alexander, but he also ate soldier's rations with his men and slept in the same conditions as them.

i wish my classes were like that. on the other hand, i did have a class where we spent 2 hours a week discussing the afterlife in the ancient world, which was awesome. It's a pretty great class, however we get derailed often. Our last debate was whether or not colourblind people can appreciate a sunset. It's usually about ancient civilizations and beliefs though. We haven't done much on afterlives but we did a fair bit on creation stories, which I quite enjoyed. Well I think any leader was prone to javelin , or other such pointy or deadly things at soldiers when there was talk of treason. I mean how he'd talk with wounded soldiers, allow families of killed soldier to be free from taxes, eating and sleeping (take that how you wish) with soldiers, leading charges, etc. Also, off topic, we were taught javelin warfare in PE in middle school. It was the only part of the class I was enthusiastic about. *rolls eyes* See Hannibal in 2006, starring Vin Diesel. The actors they're picking are really going downhill. Vin Diesel is no Hannibal.
